Senior Highways Asset Engineer
Location: Swindon
Rate: £49.53 an hour (umbrella)


A Local Authority in Swindon is seeking an Interim Senior Highways Drainage/Flood Engineer. This role involves leading a team responsible for delivering highway asset management, programming, planning, and valuation functions, including drafting and updating strategic asset management policy, strategy, and plan documentation.

Role Overview:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the team in managing highway assets, including drainage and flood risk management.
  • Develop and update strategic asset management policy, strategy, and plan documentation.
  • Support the Council's responsibilities as the Highways Authority and Lead Local Flood Authority.
  • Oversee the planning and programming of highway maintenance and improvement works.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver effective asset management solutions.
  • Provide technical expertise in drainage and flood risk management to inform decision-making processes.
  • Conduct assessments and valuations of highway assets to inform investment planning and prioritisation.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Qualified Civil Engineer with extensive experience in drainage and flood risk management.
  • Proven track record in highway asset management and strategic planning.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and guidelines.
