Job Description
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an aspiring Assistant Site Manager to join a site in East Manchester, one which will allow you to learn your trade with a dead sound Site Manager on a small site (6 houses, 20 apartments) and one which’ll not get away from you like some of the super-sized ones out there – once you’ve learnt the ropes and completed this one there’s plenty of work after that, too.
Firstly, the Site Manager you’re working with. Dead sound - why? Because he’s a young, energetic and experienced manager who’s worked for some top 5* housebuilders but also some smaller contractors, he’s also worked his way up through a trade. He joined this company as he didn’t want to feel like a number and wanted to be respected at work again. He said ‘I want someone who’ll come in, be able to have a laugh with me on site but also crack on and do a good job’ – sounds like just the right working environment for someone looking to make an impression.
Secondly, the role – they don’t need someone all singing and dancing for this, so if you’ve got a few months to 1 year experience as an Assistant Site Manager they’ll speak to you. Yes, they’re not paying the most (namely because of the size of the site as there’s not as much profit in it) BUT they will be looking to put you through your qualifications. NVQ Level 6 for the right candidate which then sets you on the Site Manager path. On site you’ll be mostly doing 1st and 2nd fix to completion.
Lastly, the company. A family firm who I’ve placed into lots of times – most people join because they want to work in an environment that doesn’t burn them out, one who puts on onus on getting your qualifications and one who have loads of sites within the Greater Manchester area (normally about 12/13 at a time). Plus they’re all a bunch of good eggs – after all, who wants to work with rotters?
