Mechanical Design Engineer

Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer Engineer to join one of the UK's leading construction and engineering solutions company on a long term contract basis. This is a long term Contract role with IR35 to be determined pending determination.

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development and implementation of mechanical designs for wastewater M&E assets. You will manage the full project lifecycle, from initial client requirements to final installation, while coordinating closely with civil engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design from client requirements through to installation.
  • Develop P&IDs, manage HAZOPs, conduct Hazards in Construction assessments, and prepare design risk assessments.
  • Create and review mechanical and civil design drawings.
  • Provide technical input for tenders and subcontract paperwork.
  • Conduct pre-start subcontractor meetings and define expectations,Manage subcontractor payments, documentation, and deliverables.
  • Manage site work including mechanical isolations, approve mechanical RAMS, and sign off mechanical test and inspections.

Main Duties

  • Design wastewater M&E assets such as pumping stations, CSOs, and civil structures.
  • Select and size equipment (e.g., pumps, mixers, pipework).
  • Coordinate TMA and NRSWA requirements.
  • Oversee early site investigation and material procurement.
  • Participate in design reviews with clients and internal teams.
  • Collaborate on cost to complete and budget reviews.Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Review and develop Inspection Test Plans (ITPs).

Qualifications

  • HNC or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in wastewater M&E design.
  • Strong knowledge of P&ID, HAZOP, and design risk assessment.
  • Proficiency in managing subcontractor work packages and project programmes.
