Principal Design HSE Engineer

Due to continued growth, an opportunity has arisen for a Principal Design HSE Engineer to join a leading Construction and Engineering company on a long term contract basis. This role is Hybrid with an Outside of Scope Of IR35 pending determination.

The successful candidate will take charge of HSE design on projects and proposals, ensuring technical quality and adherence to programme and cost targets. This role involves working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, providing support and advice on Design HSE matters, and contributing to the technical development of the function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Design HSE efforts on projects and proposals, ensuring high technical standards and meeting programme and cost targets.
  • Perform Design HSE work and supervise junior engineers as required.
  • Assist the Chief Design HSE Engineer with resource planning, monitoring, and reporting on design progress and man-hour usage.
  • Collaborate proactively with other disciplines and the Client to ensure integration of Design HSE into the overall engineering design.
  • Support the Chief Design HSE Engineer in the technical development of the function.
  • Provide Design HSE advice and support to colleagues and subordinates.
  • Scoping, outline design, detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and handover.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in a process-related discipline, Chartered Engineer status and membership of a relevant engineering institution (e.g., IChemE).
  • Minimum of 10 years in Design HSE / Technical Safety for the UK onshore market.
  • Ability to apply relevant industry codes, standards, and guidelines.
  • Experience in consequence analysis, risk assessments, technology selection, equipment datasheet specification, hazardous area classification, active and passive fire protection.
  • Experience using PHAST, DSEAR/Hazardous area classification, Risk assessments, Hazard Studies, LOPA / SIL assessment.
  • Excellent communication skills, experience with hydrogen is an advantage.
  • Current CSCS / CCNSG card.
