Senior Electrical Engineer

Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join one of the UK's leading construction and engineering solutions company on a long term contract basis. This is a contract role, Hybrid and is Outside of Scope of IR35.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will contribute technical expertise to a range of projects in the Energy, Oil & Gas, and Nuclear sectors. This role offers a blend of responsibility and variety, providing technical input for projects and proposals while ensuring compliance with industry standards and legislation. As part of the team, you will be responsible for everything from preparing documentation and requisitions to performing key technical assessments, all while working closely with clients and suppliers to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide electrical discipline technical input for projects, including preparation, checking, and approval of engineering documentation.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable national and international codes of practice, legislation, and company/client standards.
  • Prepare requisitions for equipment and materials, including HV and LV switchboards, transformers, UPS systems, power factor correction, trace-heating, lighting, and other electrical equipment.
  • Develop installation scopes of work and review supplier quotations to prepare technical bid assessments.

Perform specific technical tasks, such as:

  • Cable, Lighting, and Lightning calculations.
  • Electrical equipment ageing and obsolescence management.
  • Support site teams with operational issues.

Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of design practices and installation requirements across a range of industries.
  • Over 10 years of engineering experience in the Oil & Gas, Nuclear, or Water sectors.
  • Knowledge of UK legislation and standards.
  • Familiarity with installation requirements for equipment in process plants, especially in potentially explosive areas.
  • Understanding of CE marking, including ATEX, PED, Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive, and EMC compliance.
  • Awareness of HSE requirements, with experience in risk identification, quantification, and management.
  • Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering (Apprenticeships may also be considered).
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or working towards achieving these professional titles.
