Facilities Assistant - Educational Facility (static)

Location: Midlothian, Scotland

Position: Full time, permanent position, Mon-Fri 8am-4.30pm.

Salary: £12ph / £27,400pa

Role Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and flexible
Facilities Assistant to join our building services team, providing vital support in an educational facility. This role is integral in ensuring the smooth operation of facilities, focusing on security, reception, portering, and caretaking services. You will also support the maintenance activities and manage various facility-related tasks.

As part of the role, you will be on a rotating roster for on-call duties, responding to any intruder or fire alarm alerts. Additionally, you will provide reception and security coverage for out-of-hours events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Security & Building Safety:
    • Serve as a site keyholder, responsible for opening and securing the premises.
    • Conduct regular security checks of windows, doors, perimeter gates, and fences.
    • Set and monitor the intruder alarms.
    • Perform regular inspections of areas such as corridors, restrooms, and grounds to ensure safety and security.
  • Reception & Access Control:
    • Oversee the signing-in process for subcontractors and other personnel.
    • Manage the booking of permits for external lets.
    • Operate building management systems (BMS), including access control and CCTV equipment.
    • Monitor security footage at the entrance and reception areas.
  • Portering & Caretaking:
    • Transport parcels, paperwork, materials, and equipment throughout the premises.
    • Assist with internal relocations and major moves within the facility.
    • Set up meeting rooms and community spaces for events, including arranging staging and seating.
    • Facilitate room setups for functions and external lets.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • While specific experience is not required, and full training will be provided- any relevant background in facilities management, security, or caretaking will be advantageous.
  • Previous experience as a Handyperson would be advantageous.

Additional Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be required to obtain Disclosure Scotland PVG membership.
