Mechanical Design Engineer (High Level Clearance) Location: Hybrid - Remote / onsite in Berkshire 2-3 days per week Working pattern: 9 day fortnight (5 days/4 days) Start Date: ASAP End date: 6 to 12 months (extensions expected) Rate per hour: market Duties: - Provide mechanical designs for the Facility Design Authority (FDA) such that utilities, infrastructure, engineering processes, equipment and facilities are compliant with legislation, standards and requirements associated with engineering design throughout the facility lifecycle. Key Accountabilities: - Deliver mechanical designs that meet safety and performance requirements. - Maintain a comprehensive understanding of relevant legislative documentation / standards associated with mechanical design engineering. - Apply knowledge to confirm designs are prepared which comply with relevant legislation, standards and requirements. - Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality, and be a great team player. Key Responsibilities - Deliver mechanical engineering designs that address defined requirements, across the full engineering lifecycle, to a high standard. - Ensure the design intent is maintained throughout the lifecycle, liaising with other discipline areas to ensure overall design intent is maintained. - Ensure compliance with Company Assurance Environment, Safety, Health and Quality (ESH&Q) and statutory requirements. - Ensure application of standards is proportionate and that engineering best practice is adopted. - Elevate areas of concern to the relevant Principal Engineer. Qualifications: - Essential: ONC / OND or equivalent in mechanical engineering or other related discipline. - Desirable: HNC / HND or equivalent in mechanical engineering or other related discipline. Professional Memberships: - Professional membership of an engineering institution at Eng. Tech level. Skills: - Essential: Working knowledge of legislation and standards applicable to mechanical engineering design. Competent in standard office software, and engineering tools and applications. - Desirable: Knowledge of legislation and standards associated with nuclear and / or high hazard facilities. Experience: - Essential: Producing mechanical designs as part of a multi-discipline design team. - Desirable: Experience of working in a highly regulated environment (preferably nuclear and / or explosives). Regulatory Requirements: - Able to work on a nuclear licensed site.
