Read on to learn more about this SEMH TA role in Thetford Step Teachers are working with a Secondary school in Thetford who are seeking a dedicated Social, Emotional, Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant to support a student who cannot read or write so a proportion of the work will be this literacy-based work a naturally lower-level Math's. The Pupil has an EHCP for SEMH but can be a nice lad but will need strong clear boundaries. This a Long-term role to start immediately or in November 2024.
SEMH TA - Role:
- Assisting students individually or in small groups with their educational activities.
- Implementing and adapt educational programs to meet the needs of students with SEMH.
- Supporting teachers in planning and delivering lessons that cater to SEMH needs.
- Assisting teacher to manage student's classroom behaviour to ensure a positive learning environment.
- Implementing individualised behaviour support plans.
- Build positive relationships with students to understand their needs and challenges.
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to help students build self-esteem and resilience.
- Participate in multi-agency meetings and contribute to the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Work closely with teachers, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and other support staff.
- Liaise with external agencies (e.g., educational psychologists, social services) to support students' SEMH needs.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
SEMH TA -Requirements:
- Relevant qualifications in education or child development (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning).
- Experience working with children with SEMH needs, preferably in an educational setting.
- Understanding of SEMH challenges and strategies to support students.
- Additional training or qualifications in SEMH (e.g., courses in mental health first aid, behaviour management).
- Experience in using specific interventions and programs (e.g., THRIVE, Boxall Profile).
