Overview:
We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer with a background in the nuclear sector to join our client’s high-performing team. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience and technical expertise, with at least 12 years in mechanical engineering or closely related fields. As a Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person (SQEP), you will take on a leadership role in delivering cutting-edge engineering designs, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the success of complex projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as Lead Mechanical Engineer on individual projects or a portfolio of projects, ensuring technical excellence and timely delivery.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to fellow engineers, supporting their professional development.
- Drive engineering design activities across various work categories, maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct Technology Readiness Level assessments and lead Single Discipline and Multi-Discipline Design Reviews.
- Produce and review critical design documentation, including:
- Design Justification Reports
- Mechanical Flow Diagrams
- Mechanical Handling Diagrams
- Design Proposal Drawings
- Plant and Building Layouts
- Equipment Specifications and Datasheets
Specialist Expertise:
- Extensive experience in Nuclear Mechanical Handling engineering, including the development and optimization of mechanical systems for safe and efficient operations.
- A proven track record of delivering engineering solutions in highly regulated environments, demonstrating robust problem-solving and innovative thinking.
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in mechanical engineering, ideally within the nuclear sector or other highly regulated industries.
- Proficiency in developing engineering designs, technical reports, and project documentation.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, systems, and regulatory requirements.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (Master’s or PhD preferred).
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a recognized institution.
- Experience working on high-value, complex projects in nuclear or similar sectors (e.g., defence, energy, or heavy industry).
